$2,200.00
GR79-0523-4743, Flint Henry converted to percussion, Full-stock. US stamped behind the trigger-guard. 2 screw lock. The rifle is an “Annuity Rifle”, or one of the guns that the US contracted with Henry to make and were given to the Native Americans as part of their annual payments that were promised by the US government to the Indians. Henry , Leman , Dickert , Derringer and Tryon are some of the many makers of these trade rifles. It has a 35 3/8 inch octagon barrel in .50 caliber. The bore is smooth bore which is probably correct, the US government agreed to give the Native Americans guns but did not want to outfit them with anything that would rival the military. They made sure the guns were outdated. The gun is probably from the late 1800s era. It is false striped stock with lock marked, A W SPIES, it has a Pewter insert into the check rest, with initials J.S. Fine stock, with little use marks. The barrel is smooth brown with few marks and some very fine pits on the top of the barrel, near the breach end near the nipple and hammer from black powder splash. Metal edges are crisp, wood edges are crisp. The barrel brown almost looks too good to be true. If I put a bright light on it it looks like there is some original brown with some brown patina and maybe some color touchup, if there is color touchup, it is an excellent job. It could have been done when the gun was converted to percussion. The barrel mark is crisp, HENRY. Single trigger and wooden ramrod. 2 screw lock. The action is functional but you have to pull the hammer back hard for it to lock up. The inside probably needs to be cleaned.
