GR-0824-6320, Joslyn Model 1855 Monkey Tail Carbine. .54 cal. Made to use paper cartridge. Marked A.H. WATERS, MILBURY, CT. on the lock. Marked Patd By B.F. Joslyn Aug. 23 1855 on the Monkey Tail itself. A total of 1500 made, 1200 sold to the US Military. 2 digit serial number on the breech lever, number 1x. I see no cartouche on the wood but the wood is nice enough that if there ever had been one I think I would see traces of it. I do not think it ever had a cartouche. The stock shows crisp wood edges, with some light bumps and dings. Just evidence of normal use and age, no evidence of abuse. The barrel is brown with the top latch showing about 25% case colors that are muted. Brass barrel band and trigger guard. The bore is bright, shiny, crisply rifled with a few fine spots. Fine bore. Clear markings and crisp action and mechanics. Much better than average and I would grade fine overall, fine stock, fine bore. This model is important in the development of firearms at the time being the first breech loading carbine. Early in the war, several hundred of these carbines were issued to Ohio units.

INSURANCE: We will only insure through the mail carrier when specifically asked to.
Shipping does not include insurance through courier. We carry our own insurance but there is a $1000 deductible. If you would like your box insured through the shipping company, the cost is $10 and you add an additional $1 for every hundred dollars’ worth of insurance that you want. $1000 insured value = $20. We do our best to package items as secure as we can, in the previous 6 years we have had 3 guns broken (all 3 were muskets) and we have shipped thousands of guns. USPS is difficult to get money out of even if you do insure through the USPS.
Cost: US $1 per $100 in value, plus $10. Ex. $1500 Insurance = $15 + $10 = $25

Money back, less cost to ship, if not satisfied. All sales are allowed a 3-5 business day inspection. Please contact us to make arrangements before shipping any item back for refund. No refund is due until I have received the item and it has been inspected.
