GR-0824-6275, Volcanic Pocket .31 Rocket Ball, predecessor to the Henry Rifle. Originally made by Smith and Wesson, firing a rocketball pellet, they were bought out by Oliver Winchester and after several reorganizations, the company became the Winchester Repeating Rifle Co. Winchester revised the pattern to fire Rimfire ammunition and subsequently developed the Henry Rifle. The pistol is the pocket size Volcanic with brass frame. The barrel address reads, NEW HAVEN CONN. PATENT, FEB 16, 1855. Smooth mottled gray barrel with trace of thin blue in protected places. Mottled patina on the brass frame. The grips are original with about 60% original varnish. Functional action mechanics. Very good overall and less than 850 of this model were made. Hard to find. Better than average condition and shows honest 175 years of age, evidence of use, but no abuse.
