GR-0125-6390, US Colt M-1851 Navy .36 cal, 6 shot with overall dark brown patina. Serial number 67,xxx matches on the barrel, load lever, wedge, frame, trigger-guard, back-strap, cylinder pin and cylinder. The gun was made in 1857. US mark on the frame and correct US military inspector marks all over the gun. Each side of the grips is clearly cartouched but not clearly legible. The left side of the grip is less legible than the right side. Grips show some light and honest wear. This would be considered a 2nd type, in this serial number range and not cut for stock. Most guns in this serial number range were issued to the military. Many of them saw use in the Black Hawk Indian war in Illinois and Iowa and because there was such a shortage of guns at the beginning of the Civil War, nearly all were used early in the war. Crisp tight mechanics with 3 clicks, functional half cock and very tight lock up in the full cock position. The gun shows about 85% of the cylinder scene with light and honest bumps, dings and evidence of use. There are flashes of original case color on the frame and flashes of original blue on the bottom of the barrel. The load lever latch is replaced.
