GR-0125-5001, Smith and Wesson Schofield 1st Model #14xx and US marked on butt. BLOWOUT

GR-0125-5001, Smith and Wesson Schofield 1st Model #14xx and US marked on butt. The gun is mottled gray with scattered salt and pepper staining. The barrel was period cut, usually to fit a shoulder holster. The grip has 6 kill notched carved into the bottom edge. These were issued to the US military and turned in when replaced by the Colt Single Action. The bore is bright, shiny strongly rifled with scattered fine spots. The cylinder is replaced, the number is not right and the cylinder is engraved. That is odd to me, I think it may be a S&W American cylinder. A 44 Russian cylinder will fit in the cylinder and there is enough room for the action to function, a 44-40 cartridge will not go all the way in the cylinder. The cylinder looks like it has been with the gun for a long time. It may be an old cowboy gun, the cylinder blew and had to replaced so someone put what would fit in the gun. If it is a 44 cal cylinder I assume it would still work but would not be as accurate. The action is functional but clunky and not always lining up perfectly. The hammer pull kind of catches and releases. The ejector only will pop up about half an inch. Numerous bumps, dings and scattered very fine pinpricks scattered about the gun. It looks like a hard used cowboy gun to me. It would certainly be interesting to know where this gun has been. The Schofield is a difficult gun to find and very desirable and this is about as inexpensive of an example as I have ever had to offer. There is certainly some value add Good overall.

PLEASE READ

We accept Check, Money Order, Credit Card, Wire, etc.

If you send a Cashier’s Check or Money order, items will get shipped immediately. If you send a personal check, we will wait for the check to clear before shipping. Please send an invoice with payment, it makes it easier to keep track of payments that way. Also, please be sure your shipping address is correct.

CREDIT CARD FEES: Domestic: 3.5%. International: 6.0%

WIRES: If sending a wire add $30

INSURANCE: We will only insure through the mail carrier when specifically asked to.

Shipping does not include insurance through courier. We carry our own insurance but there is a $1000 deductible. If you would like your box insured through the shipping company, the cost is $10 and you add an additional $1 for every hundred dollars’ worth of insurance that you want. $1000 insured value = $20. We do our best to package items as secure as we can, in the previous 6 years we have had 3 guns broken (all 3 were muskets) and we have shipped thousands of guns. USPS is difficult to get money out of even if you do insure through the USPS.

Cost: US $1 per $100 in value, plus $10. Ex. $1500 Insurance = $15 + $10 = $25
