GR-1023-4958, Allen Center Hammer Lip Fire Navy .38 Lip Fire. Only 500 of these revolvers were made and most I have seen over the years have been converted to Rimfire. This is an unaltered lip fire navy, still in original lip fire. These were made before the percussion revolvers but outfitting with percussion was easier than finding cup fire cartridges in early 1860s. For this reason, Allen then starting making this revolver in percussion. Metal surfaces are mostly smooth mottled brown with scattered staining. There are flashes of original blue finish on the frame. Serial number 24 on the frame under the grips and stamped on the inside of the right grip. The right grip is original to the gun, the left grip looks like a replacement. The barrel markings are clear. Crisp functional in SA. The bore is excellent with some original streaking blue in the bore. Very good overall.
